Demonstrating the ability of people with disabilities in Balkh

Social Association of Women with Disabilities launched a handicraft program for women with disabilities in Mazar-e-Sharif, to showcase the ability of the disabled.
Parwana Sama, Head of Social Association of Women with Disabilities, says to counter the disbelief in the community about the abilities of people with disabilities, they held a program and provided jobs for the disabled.
According to her, women with disabilities face many problems and challenges both in their household and in the community, including their rejection in society and family discrimination.
Ms. Sama adds that during the ongoing year, 25 women with disabilities were enrolled in private by Social Association of Women with Disabilities.
In the meantime, a number of disabled women who had put their products on display stated that their talent and abilities were often ignored in society.
They called on the government not to discriminate between war and non-war disabled people, and that non-war disabled must also be registered with the government.
According to officials at Social Association of Women with Disabilities, little work has been done by disability support institutions in empowering the disabled, which is not enough and further government support is needed in the field.
