Joint Afghan-Uzbek committee of borders for economic, trade and culture development held a meeting in Balkh.
Baba Luftura, Governor of Surkhandarya province in Uzbekistan, who arrived in Mazar-e-Sharif, announced efforts to build a business center near the Afghan-Uzbek border.
He said the purpose of the center was to expand trade cooperation between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan, and called on Afghan businessmen to invest there.
The Uzbek official says that every Afghan citizen can stay in the commercial center for 15 days without a visa.
Meanwhile, Balkh Governor Mohammad Farhad Azimi states a factory to produce precious stones will be built in the center, which will get its raw materials from Afghanistan for the first time.
The governor of Balkh also asked Uzbek investors to finance in mining and agriculture sectors in Balkh province.
It is worth mentioning that Balkh Chamber of Commerce and Industries considers the construction of the commerce center beneficial for the country’s investors and welcomes it. Officials at the chamber also maintain that trade ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan is solid and that in 2019, more than $500 million worth of commercial goods were imported from Uzbekistan, but exports were very low.
