Jowzjan records positive polio cases

Public health officials in Jowzjan province reported two positive cases of polio virus.
Abdul Ghaffar Khoshiwal, head of Public Health Department in the province, said two children aged 8 months and 4 years had contracted polio in Aqcha and Mingajik districts.
Mr. Khoshiwal expressed concern and added that due to security issues, they could not carry out polio vaccination campaign in insecure parts of the province.
A number of local residents called on armed opponents of the government to pave the ground for launch of vaccination campaigns so that children can be vaccinated against deadly diseases.
According to public health officials in Jowzjan, more than 300,000 children have been vaccinated against polio in three stages this year, but because of security threats, about 60,000 others have been deprived.
