Sheberghan gas pipeline extension project resumes

The work of extending gas pipeline in Sheberghan city started again today after 15 years of suspension, and according to officials, ten thousand families will benefit from natural gas within the next month.
In the first step, gas would be distributed to businessmen and in the next step to the families in the province, Abdul Qayoom Rashed, head of Afghan Gas Enterprise in Jowzjan said.
According to Mr. Rashed, around 2,000 families are currently using natural gas in Sheberghan, and they plan to cover all areas in the city in the next few months.
Officials at Afghan Gas say the company processes 600,000 cubic meters of gas per day, of which 330,000 cubic meters are used to power Kod o Barq plant in Mazar-e Sharif.
There are currently 77 inactive and 27 active gas wells around Sheberghan city.
