Jowzjan’s Women’s Affairs Department has reported a 20 percent increase in violence against women in the province.
Wahida Faiz, an official with the department, said that 197 cases have been registered in Jowzjan this year, including 13 murders, 4 rapes, 4 hangings, 37 beatings and other cases of violence against women.
According to her, the outbreak of the coronavirus, poverty, unemployment and insecurity have been the main reasons for the increase in violence against women during this period.
This morning, however, Women’s Affairs Department in the province, in cooperation with the Partnership organization, launched a program to raise awareness about women’s rights, the law on the elimination of violence against women, and the prevention of premature and forced marriages in the city of Sheberghan.
