Balkh police hands over nearly 200 weapons to DIAG

Balkh Police Commander Sayed Merajuddin Sadat said they had handed over 193 weapons of different kinds obtained from various crimes in the province over the past year to DIAG (Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups).
According to him, in the last five months, 437 people have been arrested in connection with different crimes in Mazar-e-Sharif.
Balkh Police Commander also added that since two months, they have launched an operation called “Qiyam 317” in cooperation with ANA and NDS, first in Shulgara and then clearing 15 villages in Balkh district, and currently to strengthen security checkpoints, clearing operation of Char Bolak highway is underway.
Meanwhile, Ghulam Farooq Khpalwak, Deputy Governor of Balkh, stated that corrupt and usurping people would not be spared anymore and that they would be dealt with seriously and legally.
On the other hand, Abdul Manan Abed, head of DIAG in the north, says that in the past year they had collected 186 weapons from four northern provinces and now 193 more weapons have been added from Balkh.
According to him, in previous years, 500 irresponsible armed groups had been identified in five northern provinces, but as the security situation deteriorated, these groups increased tenfold.
According to DIAG official in the north, 18 northern districts were previously unarmed and irresponsible gunmen did not exist in them, and they had disarmed 150 groups, but as the security situation worsened, weapon depots are now available in those districts.
