Peace dialogue held in Balkh
Social Council for Consolidation of Peace launched an advocacy discourse in Mazar-e Sharif on the expectations of Afghans, especially war victims, religious scholars, women and youth from the peace process.
Soria Bawar, head of the council in Balkh, said the dialogue was set up to share the demands and expectations of people with negotiators.
She expressed concern that not only women, but also the majority of Afghans do not have their place and role at the negotiating table and their demands are not represented. She added that Afghanistan’s achievements were in jeopardy.
According to her, government’s negotiating team with the Taliban has not played a key role so far and that’s why there has been no progress in the peace process.
Meanwhile, participants stated that since the start of intra-Afghan talks, the war has intensified and targeted assassinations have increased, while poverty and unemployment rates have surged.
Hamid Enayat, a religious scholar, maintained that people are tired of the ongoing situation and that the peace process should be shared with the people as soon as possible so that everyone can witness peace and tranquility.
For more than a year now, many institutions have launched programs in different parts of Afghanistan to share the demands of the people, especially women, in the peace talks, but it is still unclear whether these advocacies will have a positive outcome or not.
