Mohammad Salem Saei, Head of Balkh’s Agriculture Department, said that in collaboration with GIZ, they had trained fruit and vegetable processing to 45 women from Nahr-e Shahi, Dehdai and Khulm districts for three days, who are now showcasing their products.
According to him, after being trained in production and processing of fruits and vegetables, these women can now package their products in a standard way, sell them in markets, and train other women in their neighborhoods to improve economies of families.
Meanwhile, women who have received training in the preparation and packaging of pickles and jam state that they are ready to start their own businesses and compete with foreign products. They also call on the government to support them.
It is worth mentioning that, according to Mr. Saei, more than 3,000 women are trained every year in Balkh, of which more than 2,000 are engaged in the production of pickles, and 500 sell their products in markets.
