Officials at Badakhshan’s Public Health Department say the local administration of the province, in cooperation with National Procurement Authority, has purchased 10 ambulances and transferred them to the province to improve health services.
Badakhshan’s Public Health Director Dr. Noor Khawari said the ambulances had been procured from Covid budget after needs assessment at a cost of AFN 41 million.
By distributing the ambulances to the needy districts, their problems in transporting patients suffering from acute diseases, disorders or in labor will be significantly reduced, according to Khawari.
Residents of remote districts of Badakhshan maintain that they expect the local administration not to forget remote and deprived areas in the supply of ambulances and to be just in their allocation.
Sibghatullah, a resident of Shohada district, said the district’s health center had only one ambulance, which was not adequate to transport patients to Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan, due to the long distance. “I expect the problems of local patients to be resolved after the arrival of new ambulances,” he said.
Local officials in Badakhshan say as Covid-19 spread in the province, the central government allocated AFN 150 million to fight the virus, of which AFN 79 million was used to buy equipment and medicine and the remaining AFN 71 million was returned to the government treasury due to the lengthy procurement process.
